George Alexander Trebek was born on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, to Lucille Lagacé and George Edward Trebek. His family was primarily French-Canadian with Ukrainian heritage. Trebek briefly attended the Collège Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean before completing a degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa in 1961.
Television Career Beginnings
Trebek began his television career with CBC as a news and sports commentator. He hosted several programs, including "Music Hop" and "Reach for the Top." In 1973, he moved to the United States and hosted the NBC game show "The Wizard of Odds." He later transitioned to "High Rollers" and "Battlestars."
