    Early Life and Activism

    Sol Hurok, an American music and theater producer, was born in 1888. In 1906, he emigrated to the United States from Russia and initially worked menial jobs such as a courier, bottle washer, and hardware salesman.

    Inspired by political activism, Hurok encouraged aspiring musicians to participate in socialist rallies and organized concerts for workers. In 1910, he co-founded the Labor Lyceum, which hosted lectures and concerts.

    Music Producer

    Hurok's connections with musicians flourished, and he began organizing concerts at various venues, including the New York Hippodrome. He promoted renowned artists such as Efrem Zimbalist and Eugène Ysaÿe. In 1914, Hurok became a naturalized US citizen.
