Life and Early Career
Born into a political family in Senegal, Macky Sall's father served the ruling Socialist Party while his mother was a peanut vendor. Despite his father's affiliation, Sall joined the opposition Maoisist movement.
Sall pursued higher education in Senegal, graduating from the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar in 1988 as a mining engineer. He furthered his studies in France, completing his studies in hydrogeology and geophysics at the French Petroleum Institute in 1993.
Political Journey
In 1990, Sall joined the opposition Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) led by Abdoulaye Wade. He rose through the party ranks, becoming its regional leader in Fatick and joining its secretariat in 1998.
